Chinese New Year

Our colleagues in China celebrate the New Year which starts on January 28th. According to the Chinese zodiac 2017 is the year of the Rooster. Chinese New Year also called Spring Festival looks back on more than 4,000 years of history.

It is the grandest and the most important annual event for Chinese people. Unlike the Christian New Year which is based on a solar calendar, the Chinese New Year is based on a traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar whose date indicates both the moon phase and the time of the solar year. The "Spring Festival" - another name for the Chinese New Year ends with the Lantern Festival. Then beautiful lanterns are displayed and sweet rice dumpling soup is eaten.

We wish our colleagues in China a happy new year.

Change of our company´s name: WISKA Hoppmann GmbH

After our foundation by Wilhelm Hoppmann and Hermann Mulsow in 1919, we decided to highlight our brand name “WISKA” – translated an abbreviation for “waterproof cable fittings encapsulated in insulating material” – by placing it in front of the company´s name. At all times, however, both founding family names were part of the name, even after the Mulsow family had left the company more than 50 years ago.

Now that we are looking forward to celebrating our 100th anniversary in two years, we think it is time to adapt our name to the reality. At WISKA you meet the Hoppmann family with its team of worldwide 260 employees – in person and on site. Therefore starting from 23rd January we operate under the name of WISKA Hoppmann GmbH.

New machines for WISKA production plant

WISKA extends its manufacturing capacity in Kaltenkirchen by a second moulding production hall:

Since 2016 WISKA now has 29 injection moulding machines for plastic manufacturing at its headquarters. Eight even have the possibility of 2 component injection moulding. WISKA therefore expands its competence in plastic manufacturing not only by the development of new product lines like CONMAXX and Brace, but also by making sure that the production capacities meet the constant high customer demand.

VDE certifies WISKA cable glands according to DIN EN 62444

WISKA is one of the first manufacturers that has received the mark approval DIN EN 62444 by the VDE after the former norm DIN EN 50626 has expired by 23.09.2016.

In this international norm requirements for construction and production of cable glands for electrical installations are defined. The Institute of VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies) tests and certifies the compliance with these requirements.

For a major part of the SPRINT cable gland system by WISKA the VDE Institute has now officially given its mark approval. This means that the standard cable glands of the SPRINT system made of polyamide, brass and stainless steel are certified according to the new norm. Furthermore all variants with bend protection as well as EMC inserts receive the VCE certification with the number 40006479.

WISKA India celebrates Diwali Festival

Diwali or Deepawali is the Hindu festival of lights celebrated every year in autumn in the northern hemisphere (spring in southern hemisphere). Diwali is celebrated in the honor of Lakshmi (the goddess of Wealth).

One of the major festivals of Hinduism, it spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.

We wish our colleagues in India a happy Diwali festival.

Looking back on the SMM

We are looking back on four successful exhibition days at the SMM in Hamburg. The Hamburg Band COSMO Pauli has tuned up our fair party and an autograph session with Alen Halilovic was a highlight for the football fans on the fair. Besides these events many visitors showed interest in our new LED-products launched at the SMM. Click here for a review of our SMM time.

HSV Autographs at WISKA SMM Stand

Besides the numerous new WISKA products presented at this year´s SMM, as a special highlight also a celebrity “to touch” visited our stand: Alen Halilović, the latest newcomer of the HSV Bundesliga soccer team, joined our stand, ambitiously signed autographs and took pictures together with his fans.

The 20 year old Croatian national player has joined the Hamburger SV (HSV) only for the just started new season and already in his first game score the winning goal.

WISKA illuminates Hamburg Television Tower

The Hamburg Television Tower, officially called Heinrich-Hertz-Tower, its restaurant and viewing platform have been closed since 2001. But now, centrally located at the fair grounds and on the occasion of SMM, the leading international maritime trade fair, it came to shine in a new look at least outside – illuminated by WISKA searchlights.

Right in front of the central entrance to the fairgrounds, we placed a 10 ft container carrying four of our halogen metal vapour searchlights, which enlightened the tower and the entrance from there.

England rocks the WISKA Wembley Revival Cup

The surprise was perfect when the English and German football players of WISKA arrived at the premises of the Hamburger SV (HSV). Not on just any football field but on the training grounds of the Bundesliga club HSV was where the football match “WISKA Germany vs. WISKA UK" was going to take place.

This year is the 50. anniversary of the famous Wembley game with the infamous goal. Reason enough for a commemorating revival match called WISKA Wembley Revival Cup.

After changing into respective jerseys the next big surprise for the players was just around the corner: Uwe Seeler, captain of the German team in 1966, was waiting for the players and telling stories of former times. He also joined the game as a viewer and enjoyed the great atmosphere of the game that was concluded by an English victory of 8:4 goals.

Wind and dust proof - New dust test chamber in the laboratory of WISKA

Dust or finest particles may result in damage or failures in housings of electronic equipment. For this reason, products that are exposed to such particles have to pass a special examination.

With WISKA´s new dust test chamber products can be tested in the on-site test laboratory at WISKA. In general, the test specimens are tested here until eight hours by swirling talcum powder (= very fine dust) in the dust chamber at regular intervals. Depending on the dust protection class the test conditions may vary.

This new on-site testing procedure further completes the elaborate laboratory with which WISKA ensures the quality of its products
